Trout fishing was fair to good trolling Platte River specials and spinners. Anglers trolling for trout reported catching several pike in the 20 to 28-inch range. Most of the pike were caught by anglers using Rooster Tails and Platte River specials. Fishing from the bank was fair using PowerBait for trout and excellent using worms for perch. We had no other reports. The 25th Annual Fish Fest will be  Sept. 2-10. For more information, call (575) 377-6941.

Trout fishing was fair using PowerBait from the bank and from anchored boats. Anglers did better trolling with light tackle and using a variety of spinners for trout up to 19 inches. Edwina Alvarez of Santa Fe caught a nice 18-inch rainbow July 30. She was trolling with a Platte River special and garlic PowerBait. Fishing was excellent using worms for perch. Fishing was slow to fair using spoons and spinners for northern pike. There is a considerable amount of grass along the shoreline. Bank fishing is best if you fish off the bottom using bait under a bubble.

Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait from the bank and from anchored boats. Anglers also had good luck trolling with Platte River specials, Christmas tree kokanee killers or double whammies combinations baited with corn, salmon eggs or PowerBait. Anglers trolling for trout also picked up a few kokanee salmon.  Fishing for perch was good from the bank and from anchored boats for anglers using worms. Fishing was slow to fair using jerk baits, swim baits and large streamers for northern pike. We had no other reports.
