1 fish caught | Lunker: 3lb Smallmouth Bass using a Yamamoto Senko Worm

Monday June 29th I fished the Glen Lyn section of the New River.  In total I caught 37 fish (30 of these were smallmouth).  Most of the fish were between 10-15" with two of them being over 16".  It was overcast almost the entire time and the water was pretty clear.  I used 4" Gary Yamamoto Senko worms the entire day and color didn't seem to matter.  I used mainly Green Pumpkin with red and green flakes, but also used some cinnamon with purple flake and black with blue flake.  All worked equally as well.

Sunday May 24th I floated a section of the New River from Rich Creek to Glen Lyn.  Water was clear, but slightly low.  The fishing was slow due in my opinion to the water being low.  I only caught four smallmouth, but the largest which is pictured was close to 3 pounds.  I caught all 4 fish on a Zoom Tube in the green pumpkin color.  Had several other hits and a couple hooked that came off.  Seemed like most of the fish were out in the middle of the river in the ledges.

I kayaked the New River in Pembroke yesterday (04/01/2015).  Water was still a bit green and cloudy.  I tried several different types of lures (tubs, jigs, jerkbaits) but the only thing I even got a strike on was a lipless crankbait.  I had one strike and caught one smallmouth.  However, this was a day after a cold front came through and a day before a storm is supposed to come through.
