Nickajack Lake – 21 May 2017- If you’re in search of a less pressured lake that provides lots of action and some quality fish take a look at Nickajack Lake just outside Chattanooga TN.   , I had the pleasure of spending a day last week on Nickajack with a new client visiting Chattanooga and we had a blast.  We boated just over 50 fish mainly all on Tightline Mussel Crawler Jigs and Tightline Jigs on a white Shad or Guntersville Special Swim Jigs.  Water temps ranged from 75 to 79 degrees. We found our fish scattered on road beds, main channel grass and points while covering water from Marion County Park down to Shellmound State Park.  Our best fish came from 14 FOW using Mussel Crawler Tightline Jigs with twin turbo tail trails. Now is the time to make your reservations for some exciting Summer Ledge and fall fishing on Nickajack, Normandy, Tims Ford and Guntersville! I have days available throughout the winter with full time Professional USCG Licensed/Insured guides. As always, we supply all fishing gear including Duckett Rods, LEW’s Reels, lures, and drinking water at no additional cost you, Military Discount and the dedication to making your trip successful.  “Let’s go fish’ in”

I don't fish the lower end of Nickajack. I spend most of my time in the headwaters, the tailwaters of Chickamauga Dam. We've been doing well on blue cats, channel cats, bluegill with a few good days using live bait to catch smallmouth, spotted bass, white bass and some small stripers.

We typically drift fish the current, except for the bluegill that we typically find in the slack water areas.

My preferred catfish bait is raw chicken breast. Drift fish with the least amount of weight possible, or vertical fish the deeper holes. You'll have to vary techniques and presentation based on the amount of current. TVA generation schedules have been very unpredictable this year. See: http://www.tva.gov/lakes/chh_r.htm

The smallmouth and spotted bass bite will be better early and late. They can be caught on artificials, but live shiners always catch more fish. Use small circle hooks to avoid deep hooking fish, and it keeps your shiners livelier.

For bluegill I prefer wax worms or meal worms.
