Crappie: Slow. Captain Bill Plumley (864-287-2120) reports that with up-and-down weather the crappie fishing has been sporadic, and even when fish bite one day they often won't feet well again for a couple more days. The fish that have been caught are coming over 25-30 feet of water on brush. Catfish: Fair to good. Captain Plumley reports that his boat has been catching some big blue catfish in about 30 feet of water. Numerous fish in the 25-30 pound range have been landed recently, with cut herring and gizzard shad anchored on the bottom producing best. Channel catfish have not been feeding well. Striped Bass: Fair. Captain Plumley reports that his boat has been catching a few striper on downlines, but instead of herring being the bait of choice smaller minnows and threadfin shad have been getting the bites. Fishing in pockets about 30 feet down has been working the best. Before the last round of rain fish were being caught on free-lined gizzard shad and herring in the creeks, but muddy conditions may have pulled those fish out.

  • Black bass: Fair to good. A couple of major patterns are working. First, significant numbers of fish are up shallow around the old growth and they caught be caught on buzzbaits, frogs and soft plastics. There are also fish that have returned to deeper water and are grouped up around points and humps, particularly those with timber and brush. Drop shot rigs, shakey head worms, Carolina rigs and Texas rigs will all catch these fish, but fishing topwater lures such Spooks, Sammies, swimbaits and flukes is also a good way to target them by calling them up.
  • Crappie: Slow. Fishing has gotten pretty tough, but fish can be caught around bridges and deep brush at night in about 20-25 feet of water. Minnows are producing best but slabtail jigs will also catch fish.

first time to hartwell in a long time and it was rough. I didnt know they were having a bunch of tournaments so there were bass boats everywhere! We fished a lil over 4 hours we got on the water a lil after 7am and got off lil after 12. I took a buddy that hasnt been fishing in a long time he caught a small spotted bass on a mepps minnow around a dock. I was fishing with a drop shot rig with a strike king dreamshot i was having lots of bites around the docks but they wasnt commiting to it. I only caught one very small spotted bass on the drop shot rig on a main lake point. We saw a bunch of nice bass in the back of spawning coves but couldnt get them to bite.
