In spite of weather, there has been very light fishing pressures. The lower Kern is unfishable through the canyon with flows over 4,000 cfs below Isabella. The upper river is more fishable with flows in the 1,500 cfs range at Kernville this week. Only a few wild and holdover fish being caught in the upper river. A few bass are being caught right in Bakersfield where the river is running through town. Very light fishing pressure, but the flows have come down enough for conditions to be fishable. There have been no recent trout plants, however. Flows in the upper Kern River at Kernville about 1,750 on Wednesday this week, about half of what they were this time last week. The South Fork of the Kern flow was 280 cfs on Tuesday, down from 665 cfs a week ago. The release out of Isabella is 4,000 cfs, and the flow in Kern River canyon has been 4,900 below the powerhouse diversion. The river continues to flow bank to bank all the way through Bakersfield. Flows in the upper Kern River have been up and down during the storms, but it was 1,428 cfs on Wednesday going into Isabella and 913 cfs going out. That is the highest release in years and the water is now flowing all the way through Bakersfield. Overall very slow fishing in both the upper and lower river with no recent DFW trout plants.
