Flows in the upper Kern River have been up and down during the storms, but it was 1,428 cfs on Wednesday going into Isabella and 913 cfs going out. That is the highest release in years and the water is now flowing all the way through Bakersfield. Overall very slow fishing in both the upper and lower river with no recent DFW trout plants. Flows in the upper Kern River have dropped back down from last weeks 6,000-plus flows, and they have been from 1,300 to 850 cfs in the last few days. The weekends storm could send those flows skyrocketing again. The river below the dam has remained about 300 cfs below the dam. Overall very slow fishing with no recent DFW trout plants. There was a DFW trout plant two weeks ago in Section 4 (Kernville region), but the bite has slowed since then. A few fish are still showing in the bigger pools at the stock sites on salmon eggs and crickets. There is also fair action for wild and holdover fish above Kernville or flies. Flows remain about 140 cfs at Kernville and about 300 cfs below the dam. In the lower river the bass and catfish bites are slow with a few bass on plastic worms and nightcrawlers, while the cats are best on clams or nightcrawlers, and all the action is in the bigger pools.
