All the bass are fair to good now, with the stripers, largemouths, and smallmouths all up chasing shad. The stripers are best on shad-like swimbaits and cranks, either cast or trolled. Also quite a few fish on blood worms in deeper water. Bob Caffey, TroutOnly Guide Service, has been consistently getting stripers, but he reported that high flows into the lake seemed to shut down the bite on bigger fish, but that the two-pounders are still wide open. For the black bass, some action on reaction baits, but plastic worms and nightcrawlers are as good. The bluegill bite is good with a lot of nice catches of fish up to a pound or better on red worms, nightcrawler pieces, meal worms, and wax worms danced under bobbers. Most are in the coves around structure. Trout are slow, with the most recent plant three weeks ago. No Catfish reports. All the bass are good now, with the stripers, largemouths, and smallmouths all up chasing shad. The stripers are best on shad-like swimbaits and cranks, either cast or trolled and the quality has been better over the past week with a lot of fish from four to eight pounds. Mike Luna, Bakersfield, landed a 6-1 striper. Those same baits are also working for the black bass, but plastic worms and nightcrawlers are as good. The best largemouth action is in less than 20 feet of water and some fish are tight in the shallows chasing bait. The bluegill bite is good with a lot of nice catches of fish up to a pound or better on red worms, nightcrawler pieces, meal worms, and wax worms. Most are in the coves around structure. Trout are slow, even after the DFW plant last week and three weeks ago. Catfish slow. For information call the marina at 661-775-6232 (www.CastaicLake.com) or Tackle Express at 661-251-8700.
